Project background

ESI Tech Group has enhanced its electro-mechanical offering by upskilling its technicians in the latest electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA) training.

ESI Tech Group mechanical fitters and technicians attended Competency Training’s Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas course to build on their electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA) skills.

The course enabled them to attain nationally recognised competencies that meet AS/NZS 4761 requirements for working with EEHA.

Throughout the five-day course, our team gained invaluable knowledge and skills to perform installation, maintenance, testing and inspection of electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres, including:

  • Principles of hazardous area classification
  • Explosion-protection techniques
  • Equipment installation requirements
  • Testing
  • Procedures for breakdowns and maintenance
  • Theory and practical components
  • Visual and detailed inspections

Our technicians have extensive experience in heavy electro / HVAC mechanical services with competencies in these units:

  • Compliance with scheduled and preventative maintenance program processes
  • Documentation maintenance
  • Detailed inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas
  • Visual and close inspection of electrical installations for hazardous areas
  • Determination of explosion-protection requirements to meet a specified classified hazardous area
  • Entering a classified hazardous area to undertake work related to electrical equipment
  • Installation of explosion-protection equipment and associated apparatus and wiring systems
  • Maintenance of equipment associated with hazardous areas

Electrical Fitter / Team Leader Robin Boxma said the course consolidated his EEHA skills:

“It was really helpful, practical and has consolidated my EEHA knowledge and skills, particularly in relation to the overhaul of electrical rotating equipment, which gives me the confidence to perform the work for ESI customers.”

These competencies add to Robin’s expertise and unique competencies, including overhaul and repair of explosion-protection equipment in:

  • Dust atmospheres
  • Gas atmospheres
  • Flameproof enclosures
  • Coal mining

And “Reporting on the integrity of explosion-protection equipment in hazardous area”.

These competencies enhance ESI Tech Group’s ability to professionally deliver these electro-mechanical services:

  • Rotating electro-mechanical services / motor repairs
  • Bearing changes
  • Electrical fitting
  • Air conditioning chiller & compressor repairs
  • Offshore & marine electro-mechanical services
  • Where possible, in-situ repairs
  • Alignment services

Thank you, Competency Training for providing such quality training courses.
